Bernadette Pinion
I, like everyone, am a product of my happenstances, my fate,
my choices, and my DNA. I mainly connect
with Oliver Goldsmith's saying, "I love everything that's old; old
friends, old times, old manners, old
books, old wine." Some of my other interests besides family include
nature, dancing, museums,
chocolate, Masterpiece Theater, rain, teenagers, concerts, art, documentaries,
Broadway shows, travel,
and watching sports. I like music i.e. good rock In roll, blues, pop, jazz and
opera. I find it therapeutic to
work in the yard. I have belonged to an invitation only 12 member book club
(Coterie) for over 14
years; I play bridge once a week; I enjoy monthly games, etc. with JIGs (Just
Irish Girls) consisting of
family members; I have been involved with volunteer work and charities; and,
occasionally I continue
my mother's estate sale business.
After a couple of years of college, night school and odd
office jobs, I met and married Tulsan Ron Smith.
Our daughter, Tara, died the summer following her 1988 graduation from Bishop
Kelley. That
November, Tara became the first BK alumnus to receive the Bishop Kelley Hall of
Fame award. Our son,
Sean, is a clinical and anatomical MD pathologist and is managing Director of
Ameripath. He recently
completed two years as Chief of Doctors at Tulsa's Hillcrest Hospital and is
currently their head of
credentials for physicians. He also continues as a member of the censure board
for the Tulsa Medical
Society, etc., etc. His two sons and both of our children have been the joy of
our lives.
I struggle with issues from childhood polio, mild arthritis,
vertigo, and Irish Catholic guilt. I strive to live
by the golden rule. I have zero tolerance for any abuse. I enjoy the most
eclectic friends and have the
craziest family. I have been blessed and, in general, I am content.
One of my favorite sayings: "lt's Later Than You
Think!"
P. S. I was very pleased to reconnect with those who
attended our 50th reunion celebration and wish
everyone could have joined us. All will have another opportunity in just 5
years. I hope to see everyone
then!
